La proposition soumise se veut être une compréhension de l’évolution de la tolérance entre juifs, maures et chrétiens au sein d’un Portugal en pleine mutation. L’idée de tolérance ne cesse de se modifier du XIIe au XVIe siècle. D’une part, elle définit celui qui ne partage pas le mode de vie de l’autre, mais qui est accepté de par son apport fondamental dans la construction du pays. D’autre part, elle n’existe que partiellement pour celui n’étant pas chrétien, à condition de se plier aux exigences de l’élément dominant. La refonte de l’idéologie de tolérance est mise en œuvre tant par l’Église que par des enjeux politiques. Le Portugal passe de l’acceptation de tous à l’obligation de se rassembler sous une même identité. La voix de la tolérance, dans la signification d’ouverture et d’acceptation, trouvera de moins en moins d’écho, jusqu’à la législation de la tolérance forcée à la fin du XVe siècle. This proposal intends to clarify the evolution of tolerance’s lemme, between Jews, Moors, and Christians, in rapidly changing Portugal. The idea of tolerance is in constant change from the 12th century to the 16th century. On the one hand, the tolerance defines those who does not share the same way of living of the other, accepting it for what he brings to the development of the country. On the other hand, tolerance exists only partially for those who are not Christian, provided they comply with the requirements of the dominant element. The recasting of the tolerance’s ideology is implemented by the Church and the royal politics. Portugal is moving from the acceptance of all to the obligation to gather everyone under the same identity. The voice of tolerance, in the meaning of openness and acceptance, will find less and less echo, up to the legislation of forced tolerance at the end of the 15th century.
