Résumé :
International audience
My first encounter with Abilio Estévez’s work was the reading of El navegante dormido and I felt dazzled by the poetic tension of the writing and the sophisticated complexity of the narrative structure. The novel’s dramatic tension is underpinned by the imminent arrival of a violent hurricane, the one that devastated Cuba on October 14th in 1977, and since then, for me Abilio is closely related to this phenomenon, terribly familiar in the Cubans’ everyday life and at the same time completely mythical and phantasmagorical. A few pages before the dénouement, the symbolical meaning of the hurricane is revealed to the reader.
