This article about the writing of Ahlam Mosteghanemi aims to answer why a woman writer chooses a male narrator. Her novel “Memory in the flesh” received the Nagib Mahfouz price and has been the best-selling book for the ten last years in the Arabic world. Its study shows that the male narrator is chosen by the writer for many reasons: First, to cover the reality with a touch of fiction, second, to attract and to convince the public, and third to escape from his judgment. Her text, which smartly coordinates realism and fiction, tries to frame the individual story in the history of the country where the writer grew up. She tells her readers about the great events in the Arabic world and criticizes the politicians and the people drowned in ignorance.
