In this article we will analyze the signification that Persian women conveys to the nineteenth-century French travelers and the manner they describe it. To do so, we will adhere to almost ten travel accounts written French travelers between 1787 and 1925 in Persia, the period corresponding to the reign of Qadjar dynasty. We will explore, in the first place, the elements used to represent the Persian woman as the antithesis of the occidental, and then we try to find the origins of these representations in light of the discourses on exoticism and otherness.
