Comprise comme un espace de domination, la cuisine emprisonne la femme ontologiquement dans un rôle genré. La féminité se construit à travers la réalisation des tâches ménagères – dites naturelles – reléguant la femme à un être de nature. Si l’homme s’exprime à travers la figure romanesque de l’aventurier, la femme se définit dans l’interdiction d’accès au monde extérieur. La cuisine-prison, c’est métaphoriquement la geôle de la femme, où enchaînée à son devoir de « maîtresse de maison » elle se doit de préparer la nourriture que les hommes consommeront, pour ensuite laver, nettoyer, ranger jusqu’au prochain repas, et ainsi de suite. À travers des héroïnes sorcières comme Man Yaya ou Tituba nous montrons comment la femme combat cet espace fermé. ​Considered as a space of subjugation, domestic kitchen is a place where woman is kept captive in a gendered role, from an ontological perspective. Femininity is considered to be built through the achievement of household duties - defined as natural - where woman is confined to be a being of Nature. Whereas man fulfils himself through the romantic figure of the explorer, woman is compelled to be kept apart from the outside world, the public sphere. Metaphorically speaking, the kitchen as a jail is woman’s goal, where constricted to her housewife’s duty, woman has to cook food that men will eat; to, then, wash, clean and tidy this place until the next round, on and on. From heroines, sometimes witches such as Man Yaya or Tituba we reveal how woman fight this closed space.
