The autobiography of my Mother de Jamaica Kincaid et Cereus blooms at Night de Shani Mootoo sont deux romans caribéens qui présentent un exemple de femme assassine. « Tuer pour survivre, tragédies caraïbes » explore la vie et les mobiles de Zuela héroïne du roman de Kincaid et de Mala personnage central de Shani Mootoo : deux femmes à la fois proches dans leur tragédies mais également très opposées dans leurs représentations physiques et psychologiques. Mala et Zuela, conditionnées et maltraitées par une même société coloniale qui brise les femmes et les condamne à la soumission, se révoltent chacune à leur manière et finissent par tuer pour survivre. Coupables ou non, ces deux femmes  sont présentées comme des personnages troublants dont les créatrices  sondent les motivations et la psychologie complexes.
Jamaica Kincaid’s The Autobiography of my Mother and Shani Mootoo’s Cereus blooms at Night are two Caribbean novels which introduce a striking example of female murderer. “Caribbean murders: Tragic Surviving Strategies”; explores the life and motivations of Zuela, Kincaid’s heroin, and Mala, Shani Mootoo’s main protagonist: Two women facing similar tragedies but who are opposed in the way they tackle with life and in their characterization. Mala and Zuela are both conditioned and ill-treated by a colonial society which breaks women and condemns them to submission. They will revolt in their own manner, and finally kill to survive. Guilty or not guilty those two women are presented as moving and complex characters with unexpected motivations and psychological depth.
