I'm looking for a friend of mine whom I thought might have walked this way.
This paper addresses the problem of relative concatenation of the type she told me a story that she knew was true and particularly the possibility of embedding in the same place two subordinate clauses - nominal and adjectival. Our theory is that these configurations cannot receive a syntactic analysis only but must be viewed as an intrication of enunciative and predicative domains which allows – with the introduction of the speaker’s explicit point of view – to attempt to approach the occurrence represented by the antecedent through the qualification given by the speaker.
