An attempt is made to clarify the status of the concept of « identification » in the Theory of Enunciative Operations. This concept is generally satisfactory as long as it is used intuitively but to distinguish it from the concept of « indentity » a formal definition is called for. Such a definition requires that at least two distinct sets of parameters be taken into account: the Qualitative and Quantitative determinations on the one hand, the dynamic or static aspect of the relationship on the other hand. Identification is here defined as an non-symmetrical operation which consists of the mapping of a Qualitative or Quantitative determination carried by a notion onto another notion.
