Résumé :
This paper proposes to explore some of Gertrude Stein’s narratives written during the war years. Her openly autobiographical Wars I have Seen and its satellite works, Mrs Reynolds and Brewsie and Willie, which are purportedly fictional, constitute an unpremeditated, informal trilogy working towards a resolution of personal and narrative questionings triggered off by The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas. A close reading of these texts betrays her irrepressible urge to portray herself through the mediation of an outside observer.
