“The study of the Christian missions in the New World renders it possible to analyse the forms of coexistence of persons belonging to different cultural and political systems and drawn together because of their role in the mission enterprise in a two-way cultural transmission: on the one hand social change provoked by the introduction of a new religion among the natives, on the other the development and transformation of the perception of “self” and “other” within the missionary church under the impact of the mission field experience.
